The Computers for Kids Club is pleased to announce our annual computer hardware donation drive. We will be collecting computer hardware for refurbishment and redistribution to members of our community from March 6, 2023, to March 20, 2023. This page should help answer some commonly asked questions about the donation drive as well as some requests for devices.
We have a drop box set up in the Conestoga High School Library Circulation Desk. If you have any
questions not answered in this document, please contact us at donor@stogacfk.club
By donating your old or unused devices you are helping to bridge the digital divide and provide valuable resources to members of our community. As technology has become more prevalent in everyday life, it has become increasingly important for children to have access to computers and other devices to support their education and personal growth. Our goal is to provide families with the technology they need to ensure everyone in our community has equal opportunities for success.
We accept donations of any type of computer hardware, primarily laptops, but also tablets, and accessories such as keyboards, mice, and monitors of all brands¹. We request that you include necessary accessories if you have them (ex: chargers) to reduce cost on our end. We also accept some broken hardware if fixable by our volunteers, please contact us at donor@stogacfk.club if you would like more information.
As a part of our refurbishing process, we securely erase all devices we receive. For windows PCs, we use the open-source program DBAN to erase drives, and for Macs we use the built in program Disk Utility. We use these programs to write over all the previous data 3 times to make it virtually impossible for the new owner to view any of your old data.
We recommend you erase the device on your own before donating, however certain Apple devices including all iPads, Macs newer then 2020 or on this list, you must remove all Apple accounts from the device before donating or else we will not be able to refurbish your device.
Our club members will inspect, refurbish, and with the help of T&E Care your donation will be redistributed to members of our community who are in need of technology. Any hardware which is not usable by another person (not fixable, too old, etc) will be used for other club purposes such as technology education.
Thank you for your support in helping us provide technology access to children in need in our community. If you have any questions please email us at donor@stogacfk.club
¹ If you are donating an Apple device, you must first sign out of iCloud and if possible reset your device reset your device before donating.
